NEWS FROM THE WORKSITES: City-Campus has started Prop A/AA construction on the future athletic field and parking structure on the old Heliotrope Street parking lots
District Office-The District Office employees attended a meet & greet for the newly appointed Senior Vice Chancellor Dr. Adriana Barrera; District has been advising employees to re-submit their Pre-Designated Physician’s Form for their protection on the job
Harbor-There was a rumor going around campus regarding possible lay-offs, which are not true; a lay-off is not a college action, but a Board of Trustees’ action
Mission-Campus has begun a nation-wide search for a permanent president; student parking construction to begin January 2006-completion slated for early 2007;campus is offering remote parking for students, staff & faculty during construction
Pierce-Campus is in discussion about returning to a year-round calendar; free parking for winter session; offering free MTA passes for students taking 12 or more units
Southwest-The new Student Services Building has been reconfigured to provide a safe and secure working environment;construction is underway in the Financial Aid building to replace partitions
Trade-Winter enrollment is up; Accreditation Report has been presented to the College Council on January 31st; Grant Allocation Task Force has been working on a plan for the
use of the debt Relief fund; Selection Committee formed for a permanent president;
Valley-Campus is planning a trip to the Getty Museum; a mandatory Classified Staff Development Meeting was held on January 20th to prepare for Opening Day and Classified Appreciation Day
SAP/HR Update-The SAP/HR team had visited the worksites recently and put together a few key issues found on all worksites:
ü 40% of assignment entered into the ERPA system were put in late
ü Multiple Technical Issues-2 different payroll areas for one employee with multiple assignments (Classified employees, student workers get paid twice monthly so they have a payroll are of “2”; adjunct and tenured instructors get paid once monthly so they have a payroll area of “1”; if an adjunct assignment is put in for a classified employee, the payroll area for that employee has to be changed from “1” to “2”) if the payroll area for the classified employee has not been changed, they will not receive a check
ü Pay Stud Readability-The new pay stub, or “remuneration” statements are impossible to read; they are being re-written
ü Authorizations-Many issues could be resolved if more key users were to be provided with read-only authorization to key information; Assistant Senior Vice Chancellor Dr. Sue Carleo wants to implement a pilot program for 3 months, then perform an audit;
ü ERP team has been creating a report that will show employees with questions how their vacation quota was calculated: Starting balance (from DEC) + Increment – Decrement = Current Balance LA Union on the Move · The LA Federation of Labor is supporting efforts by LAUSD to name 2 new LA-area high schools in memory of two heroes of labor-LA labor leader Miguel Contreras and Congressman Ed Roybal
· Machinists end Boeing strike and win health care caps
· Teamsters organize 500 casting directors
· Metropolitan Water District workers set to strike
· LA Fed appoints new Political Director, Courtni Surjoo Pugh and Communications Director, Mary Gutierrez
