FROM THE WORKSITES: q California’s First Lady Maria Shriver visited Trade Tech to promote “We Connect” Program and to talk about unclaimed funds the government might have of yours. q Retirees working provisionally in Payroll at the District Office were ended after Union intervened. q 12th Annual Sisterhood Luncheon at Trade Tech was a great success. “The Sisterhood” promotes scholarships for female Culinary Arts students. q Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Biology Laboratory & Preparatory Room at Mission College took place on January 29th. q Mission College also has a new president, Ms. Valles. She will start April 1st. q Staff Guild’s Retiree Chapter celebrated at their 2nd Annual Membership Luncheon on January 10th. q “Baseball is Back” Celebration took place at West Los Angeles campus on March 1st. West played against Mission College. q Dillard University from New Orleans enchanted the campus at Southwest College with their choir.
STAFF GUILD HIGHLIGHTS: q Officers/Chapter Chair/Delegates Elections will be held in May 2008. There have been candidate forum at Valley College & Southwest College. The last chance to see your candidates in action was on April 1st at the District Office. You will be receiving your ballot for voting starting April 17th. Please fill in your choices on the ballot and mail it back in the self-addressed envelope. Your marked ballot will go directly to the American Arbitration Association to be counted. q The Staff Guild Negotiating Team has officially met on March 3rd. The Chapter Chair at your worksite will be forwarding Negotiation Surveys to you to see if there are any changes you would like to see in our 2008 – 2011 Bargaining Agreement. Please fill out the questionnaire with your suggestions & submit electronically by April 4th.
AROUND THE DISTRICT & THROUGHOUT THE STATE: q Los Angeles’s actors, janitors, longshore workers, and many other workers along with members of the community will march 28 miles from Hollywood to the docks of Los Angeles in San Pedro. For three days straight, these workers and community supporters will walk and camp-out overnight along the route. The march will conclude on April 17th with a massive rally at the Port of Los Angeles at 6:00 pm. For more information, please contact the Staff Guild Office at 323-851-1521.
