500 Nurses at St. John's Win Union with CNA-NNU

Last month, after years of efforts to win union representation to improve patient care, 500 registered nurses at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica voted by 64% to join the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA-NNU). "This was the most wonderful, one of the hardest things I've ever done. It was harder than giving birth, and so worth it," said Saint John's RN Lori Hammond, who addressed the L.A. County Fed's Delegates meeting on June 20 to thank the Fed for its support during the campaign. "The nurses have so much to look forward to. Our future is going to be so bright, for us and for the nurses that follow us for years to come." Hammond was joined at June's Delegates meeting by two RN colleagues, Jack Cline and Donna Schonlaw. They are three of the original organizing committee members referred to as "The Fabulous Five."
