        What Have We Done For You Lately?

 

The AFT Staff Guild celebrates Union Awareness by reminding members of our many accomplishments and victories. The following outlines some of those results:

 

                  Negotiations Reopeners Settlement - 2006: (last year)

4.00% increase on salary schedule.

One-time bonus; 1.92% of total salary expenditures

in Trust Fund for future retiree health benefits costs.

Disciplinary Action Rescinded:

*      Settlement agreement to reinstate employee at the District Office.

Settlement agreement to rescind suspension for employee at the District Office.

 

Dismissed Probationary Employee Reinstated: Due Process Rights Case:

*      Settlement Agreement to reinstate a dismissed probationary employee, with back pay and seniority.

 

Employee Affected by Layoff—Return to Full Assignment:

*      Settlement of two part time assignments offered to employee to avoid layoff.

 

Back Pay Award:

*      Grievance filed and settlement reached on back pay for Southwest College employee based on previous reclassification action.

 

Reclassification and Back Pay Award:

*      Grievance filed and settlement reached on reclassification and back pay for Harbor College employee.

 

District Wide Reorganization: Staff Guild concerned with reorganization process.

Letter to Chancellor requesting to negotiate the effects of reorganization.

Letter to Chancellor requesting to cease and desist from any reorganization without consultation with the Union.

*      Grievance filed due to contract violations at District Office on process.

Settlement pending.

Improper Use of Student Workers:

*      Grievances filed at Pierce College regarding student workers supplanting classified employees. AFT prevails—classified employees hired.

*      Grievance filed and resolved at Southwest College regarding student workers supplanting classified employees. AFT prevails.

*      Grievance filed at Mission College regarding student workers performing Unit I jobs. Resolution pending.

 

Victory for Office Employee:

*      Grievance filed at Valley College due to denial of mandatory Personal Necessity Leave to employee. Grievance won.

 

Employee Evaluations:

*      Grievances resolved at Trade Tech College on negative performance evaluations issued to employees. Union prevails.  

 

Mediation for Pierce College:

*      Mediation held at Pierce College to address inter-office conflicts and office policies.

 

AFT Fights On-Going Violations:

*      Arbitration settlement pending at West LA College regarding student workers supplanting classified employees.

*      Grievance filed on overpayment case for employee at City College.

*      Grievance filed on contracting out Interpreter duties at Southwest College.

*      Grievance filed on lack of ergonomic provision for employees at Southwest College. 

*      Complaint filed for discriminatory practices and unacceptable supervisor behavior for employee at Southwest College.

 

AFT Action:

*      Request to Chancellor for formulation of Student Worker Study Group.

*      Request to Chancellor and Personnel Commission for salary studies.

*      Assist employees returning to work from Illness or Injury leave.

*      Assist employees with reclassification studies.

 

Political Action:

*        Election 2007: Victory -Board of Trustees - AFT endorsed candidates.

*        Support Community College Initiative (CCI)Ballot 2008

*        Founding member of the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute.
