President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)
sent a clear message to the nation: Republicans believe keeping 10
million low-income children insured isn't a priority.
Eighty-six percent of Americans disagree, and you probably do too.
Democrats aren't giving up and will fight Bush's veto. But we need 15
Republican Congressmembers to do what's right and support the Democrats
in overriding this veto.
California has 19 Republican Congressional members. Let's make sure
they understand that supporting the override is NOT a partisan issue --
it's simply the right thing to do.
Approximately 65 percent of the funding for California's Healthy
Families Program comes from SCHIP. We can't afford to lose this money
-- money that is vital in covering more than 1.4 million children.
