President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) sent a clear message to the nation: Republicans believe keeping 10 million low-income children insured isn't a priority.

Eighty-six percent of Americans disagree, and you probably do too.

Democrats aren't giving up and will fight Bush's veto. But we need 15 Republican Congressmembers to do what's right and support the Democrats in overriding this veto.

California has 19 Republican Congressional members.  Let's make sure they understand that supporting the override is NOT a partisan issue -- it's simply the right thing to do.

Ask California's Congressional members to support the override now!

Approximately 65 percent of the funding for California's Healthy Families Program comes from SCHIP.  We can't afford to lose this money -- money that is vital in covering more than 1.4 million children.

Republicans now face a simple choice: give 10 million children the health care they need by overriding Bush's veto, or turn their backs on them.  Republicans who continue to stand with President Bush against children will be held accountable.
Tell Congress today that you believe 1.4 million California children deserve his or her attention.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

SENATOR ART TORRES (RET.)
